Summer 11+ Intensive Courses for Years 4 & 5 (2022 & 2023)

- In the Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses for Year 5, we concentrate on exam techniques and skills gaps, to prepare pupils for the imminent test – and include a mock exam. Our Year 4 courses focus on core skills, with small quizzes to monitor progress. Educational games and activities are an integral part of our courses so that children enjoy their lessons and remain engaged throughout.
- Each of our Year 5 Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses are different, so Year 5 students can attend one, or any number of the courses.

We develop pupils’ knowledge so they’re equipped to answer a broad range of challenging verbal, mathematical and non-verbal reasoning questions.
Small classes
Our Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses are limited in size, which means that your child will have valuable one-to-one attention with their fully qualified teacher. Discover the proven benefits of small class sizes.
Marie Redmond Tuition® Summer Course Resources
At the start of the Year 4 and 5 courses, your child will receive their summer 11+ intensive course books.
Each of the three Year 5 summer courses also include an exclusive Marie Redmond’s Superbrain® 11+ Verbal Reasoning Book, in addition to books that are carefully curated each year from a wide range of reputable publishers.
If a student has not studied with us before, the books will be presented in a Marie Redmond Tuition® rucksack, featuring an electronic thesaurus, notebook and a pencil case containing pencils, an eraser and sharpener.
Homework
To help reinforce skills taught during the summer 11 Plus intensive course, we’ll provide homework at the end of each lesson – with reviews of each topic in the following session. This gives pupils the opportunity to ask any questions on areas they may have struggled with. As reading comprehension and vocabulary are such important parts of the 11 Plus exams, we recommend that parents encourage their children to read as wide a range of fiction and non-fiction books as possible.
Assessments and student report
Year 4 and 5 students complete a small number of short, timed tests during every lesson. Mistakes are reviewed afterwards and exam strategies are discussed. At the end of the week parents receive a summary of their child’s results, along with a report about their participation during the course, their strengths and areas to develop. Teachers are always very happy to chat with parents after each lesson and parents are welcome to speak with Marie at any point before, during or after the course.
Mock exam
We set a mock exam at the end of each of our Year 5 Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses, written by Marie Redmond MEd, making sure your child is completely comfortable with exam conditions before it really counts. You will receive the results within 48 hours, along with access to Marie Redmond 11+ Intelligent Video Learning®, providing video feedback for every incorrectly answered question.
Breaks
To help your child consolidate their memories and continue to absorb new information, we include two 5 minute breaks during each of the summer virtual lessons.
The importance of sleep
As sleep plays an important role in consolidating new memories, we recommend that your child gets as much sleep as possible during the period of their Summer 11 Plus Intensive Course and any key periods of learning. School-age children need between 9 and 12 hours of sleep a night and there are a few simple things you can do to help them get to sleep, such as turning off the TV, tablet or computer at least two hours before bedtime – the light from these can interfere with the production of the hormone melatonin, which affects sleep-wake cycles.

Discounts
If your child already studies with us, they’ll be eligible for a 10% discount on our fees above (excludes book fees).
Payment methods
All fees are paid by Direct Debit, Childcare Vouchers or Tax-Free Childcare but the method depends on whether your child attends classroom-based or virtual courses. For more information, please see our holiday course payment FAQs.
Save 20% with Tax-Free Childcare
As we’re registered with Ofsted, we accept payment by Tax-Free Childcare (and Childcare Vouchers) for all our classroom-based courses. If you’re eligible for Tax-Free Childcare, you can save 20% on the cost of your child’s course. For every £8 you pay into the scheme, the government will pay in £2, up to a maximum top-up of £2000 per year. Many of our students’ parents take advantage of this scheme and you can find out here if you are eligible. You can select this payment method when you register, or you can switch to it at anytime during your child’s course.
For virtual courses, educational providers are unable to accept payment by Tax-Free Childcare or Childcare Vouchers; this is explained in our article about Tax-Free Childcare and Childcare Vouchers.
