FAQs About The Book Club

How does my child join the book club?
  • Parents of new term time students are contacted before their children start their course.
  • Parents of existing can join by contacting us.
When does the book club Zoom meetup take place?

The Zoom meetup takes place once per month, on a Sunday. For dates, please scroll down the page.

Who runs the book club?

The book club is run by Anne; one of our qualified, experienced teachers and a passionate reader.

How many children attend the book club?

There are approximately 10 students in each book club meetup.

How are the books chosen?

During the monthly book club meetups on Zoom, students take part in an online poll to choose the book.  Once all of the meetups on the Sunday have taken place and we have combined the poll results, the chosen book is announced.

What if my child has already read the chosen book?

Re-reading books is an excellent way of developing comprehension and thinking more deeply about the plot, characters and vocabulary.  As Oscar Wilde said, “If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.”

How will my child receive their book?

Your child will receive their book through the post.

When will my child receive their book?

We order your child’s book on the Monday immediately after their Zoom meetup using the fastest available method.  The delivery timing will depend upon stock availability but your child should expect to receive their book from the Tuesday onwards.

Will my child receive guidance about reading their book?

Every week, your child will receive a suggested reading schedule with questions to think about.

What sort of creative activities will my child complete?

Every month there is a different creative activity, for example: to design a book cover, create a poster about a character or create a game linked to the book.

Will my child win a prize?

Each month, one child from each book club meetup session wins a prize for their creation.  The winner is announced on the Monday immediately after the meetup.

What is the book club fee?

The monthly charge is £18, including the cost of the book and Zoom meetup.

How will I pay?

We email you a separate monthly invoice for the book club and payment is made using the same method you use to pay for your child’s term time course (Direct Debit, Tax-Free Childcare or Childcare Vouchers).  Invoices are due on the first of the month.

For children that joined the book club on 31st January, parents were invoiced:

  • £36 on 28th January, covering January and February book clubs
  • £18 on 1st March, covering March book club
  • Monthly thereafter

For children that join the book club on 28th February, parents will be invoiced:

  • £36 before 28th February, covering February and March book clubs
  • £18 on 1st April, covering April book club
  • Monthly thereafter
Can my child change the time of their Zoom meet up?

Your child will be welcome to change the time of their Zoom call, subject to availability. Please contact us if you need to change times.

What is the notice period?

The notice period for leaving the book club is one calendar month.
